What is a UMA?
A UMA is a technology enabled client account in which separate account strategies, mutual funds, ETFs, and other securities can be combined into a single account registration (avoiding a lot of paperwork hassle for back offices, advisors and clients). UMAs permit all passive to all active management approaches and anywhere in between (e.g. a Core-Satellite approach).
UMAs can be actively managed across a number of portfolio attributes to comply with client restrictions, to control portfolio risk and tracking error as well as to optimize after-tax return with the assistance of an overlay portfolio manager.
